An interview with Julianna Lopez, Director, Sales Operations – Indica Labs

Julianna Lopez
Director, Sales Operations – Indica Labs

Where did you first learn about Indica Labs and what led you to join the company in 2017?

After relocating to New Mexico, I had continued working remotely as a Marketing Events Manager for a medical device company in California but was longing to find an in-person office where I could interact with people again. Prior to hopping to the medical device industry, I had worked for a large consumer security software company for many years. When I found the posting for Indica Labs’ Marketing and Administrative Associate, I remember thinking, “Well, I have what one would say is an administrative biotech background” and began crafting my cover letter.

What roles have you held at Indica Labs and how did they evolve to your current role?

We were in our early years and our headcount was less than 20 when I stared with Indica Labs back in 2017. I was hired as the Marketing & Administrative Associate and I was hired to handle a wide variety of tasks, from office management to sales and marketing support and many things in between. As the organization grew, I started to peel away parts of my role that were growing in demand. Being promoted to Sales Operations Manager allowed me to transition various parts of my multi-faceted role, starting with administrative and marketing pieces, then accounting and HR pieces, finally shifting out of corporate event planning and reseller administration to focus in on championing two main pieces of the organization – HALO Software Maintenance and Support (SMS) sales and our CRM.

What types of projects does the Sales Operations team work on and what appeals to you about the challenges that these projects pose?

Our small team of three is the administrative gel that works between our Sales, Technical, and Accounting teams handling a variety of tasks related to the management of our customer database. As part of the order fulfillment process, we work with our internal partners to ensure customer orders are being scheduled, delivered, invoiced, and tracked in our system as expected.

We also provide a wealth of information to our many teams within Indica, often in regular reports or meetings, and usually pertaining to the status of our customer orders and licenses. We also communicate license information directly to customers inquiring about their products.

Lastly, we are responsible for managing our HALO SMS and Annual License renewals which includes outreach to customers, renewal discussions, and liaising with our team for post-renewal support as requested.

What project are you most proud of contributing to at Indica?

In 2019, the executive team challenged me to expand our HALO maintenance services to better meet the evolving needs of our customers. We had an expanding customer base that required a developed, scalable process for managing these accounts moving forward. Partnering with our Applications, Technical Solutions and Product Marketing teams, I worked to formalize a process for tracking our customers’ renewal needs while creating internal mechanisms for customer reminders, standardizing license identification for internal/external reference, and formalizing documentation for our HALO SMS. Since then, we’ve locked in a solid process and grown the Sales Operations team while providing the same level of service our customers have come to expect. In the last year and half, we’ve been excited to expand the SMS product offering into new territories, Japan and China! I’m looking forward to our new ideas which are already brewing for even more efficiencies from the Sales Ops team in the future.

What do you appreciate most about working at Indica Labs?

I’ve always appreciated the management style of our executive team. They empower employees to do their best work and are open to hearing suggestions and feedback from anyone in the organization with an idea for a new/improved product or customer experience. They recognize talent and do their best to tap into each employee’s best skills by offering challenging and exciting opportunities. They value hard work, teamwork, and a work-life balance.

The other part of what makes Indica Labs such a wonderfully unique place is the employees. I’ve never worked with a smarter, more invested set of individuals. Worldwide, the caliber of my colleagues is top-notch. I feel very fortunate to work for such an incredible organization.

How do you spend your time outside of work?

I spend my free time with my husband and daughter, our extended family, and our three-musketeer fur children – the corgis Sam and Willie and their feline companion, Maria. We all like to spend time in our yard, gardening, BBQing, or passing a volleyball around. Some other hobbies I enjoy in my time outside of work are trips to the mountains, nature photography, reading, cooking, and painting.
