Indica Labs Expands into Prostate Cancer, Improving NGS Confidence Through Precise Tumor Quantification
Albuquerque, NM, June 30, 2026 – Indica Labs, the world’s leading provider of AI-powered digital pathology solutions, today announced the launch of Prostate Macrodissect AI, a clinically validated algorithm designed to automate and quantify tumor content in FFPE prostate tissue specimens. Prostate Macrodissect AI is designed to operate in concert with Indica Labs’ broader HALO Clinical AI suite, enabling laboratories to build end-to-end AI-powered prostate cancer workflows from automated tumor detection and Gleason grading assistance through to optimized macrodissection and genomic test preparation within a single, validated digital pathology platform.
Prostate Macrodissect AI was developed using deep learning models trained on nearly 100 thousand annotations spanning a broad histological spectrum of prostate pathology. The algorithm uses pixel-level classification to precisely quantify tumor content by differentiating adenocarcinoma from necrosis, benign and atrophic glands, stromal tissue, precursor lesions (e.g., HGPIN), and adjacent tissues. The result is a quantitative, reproducible tumor cellularity heat map overlaid directly on the digital slide, enabling pathologists to identify the highest-yield ROI for macrodissection with objective confidence.
“Genomic testing is only as good as the tissue going into the assay. For this reason, we’ve developed the HALO Macrodissection Solutions, including Lung, CRC, Breast, and now Prostate Macrodissect AI. These algorithms were designed and validated to provide pathologists with a reliable foundation for one of the most critical pre-analytical decisions in the NGS workflow. This translates into higher-quality molecular data, fewer failed runs, and faster turnaround times,” said Dr. Peter Caie, Sr. Director of Precision Medicine.
Prostate Macrodissect AI seamlessly integrates into HALO AP® enterprise digital pathology platform from Indica Labs and can be paired with Xyall’s Tissector robotic macrodissectors. Integration with Xyall’s Tissector automated macrodissection platform creates a streamlined, end-to-end workflow that improves precision and efficiency compared to conventional methods. By combining AI-guided tissue selection with automated dissection, laboratories can reduce hands-on time, improve consistency, and generate a comprehensive audit trail with pre- and post-dissection images for enhanced traceability and quality assurance.
