This enhanced new version introduces fully automated identification and exclusion of positive control tissue, ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS), and areas of benign tissue prior to biomarker analysis. This zero-click preprocessing and tissue classification workflow represents a critical step in ensuring accurate and reproducible AI outputs.
Accurate breast cancer biomarker assessment depends not only on how biomarkers are quantified, but also on which tissue is analyzed. Biomarker expression within the invasive tumor component is an established part of invasive breast cancer evaluation. However, whole-slide images frequently contain additional tissue architecture including DCIS, LCIS, benign structures, and control tissue, that can demonstrate heterogeneous biomarker staining patterns. If inadvertently included in quantitative analysis of invasive tumors, these regions may influence biomarker measurements and increase variability between observers.
