  • Digital Pathology in the New Normal: Leveraging HALO to Investigate a Global Pandemic

26 October 2020 11:00 – 12:35 PT As the world was shutting down in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Digital Pathology was thrust to the forefront as a vital option for not only completing existing projects, but more importantly in understanding the disease of COVID-19. Characterizing the mechanisms by which the novel coronavirus attacks the human body, and also understanding the immune system’s response to the disease are critical to guiding treatment and influencing outcomes. Researchers around the world utilized the HALO suite of products to share rare digital pathology slides, collect quantitative pathological data from translational models, characterize gene expression in immune response, and integrate transcriptional data with tissue-based immunoprofiling. This workshop will present some insight on how HALO has been used by researchers at 3 different global institutions to study and characterize COVID-19.Read More »

  • De-Mystifying AI: Artificial Intelligence Applications in Histology

13 October 2020, 10:00 PDT | 1:00 EDT | 18:00 BST In recent years, the term AI (Artificial Intelligence) has become a buzz word in the scientific community - particularly in Pathology. More often than not, scientists have been given a directive to investigate AI solutions with no real detail beyond that. AI can mean many different things in many different contexts. This workshop will help to define the term AI, and look at its application in various aspects of Pathology and Histology. By framing the concepts in a user-friendly manner, we can minimize some of the barriers to adoption and look at various levels of application. These will include: Deep learning networks designed to identify and eliminate artifacts in slide preparation, segment structures within tissue sections, identify cells and phenotypes, and identify pathology scores based on tissue morphology. By providing real time examples of using AI in practical Pathology and Histology applications, we can de-mystify the concept of AI and make it accessible to scientists both in and outside of the computer lab.Read More »
